What will replace gas boilers in the future?

As part of the government’s commitment to reaching net zero carbon emissions, gas boilers are being slowly phased out. This means that new builds will be kitted out with alternative heating systems. Hydrogen boilers, heat pumps, solar energy installations, and other boiler types are all alternatives.

Who qualifies for a new boiler grant?

You can qualify for a new boiler grant under the ECO4 scheme if:

  • You are a homeowner, private renter or social housing tenant
  • Your property has an EPC rating of D, E, F or G
  • You claim one of the following benefits:
    • Child Benefit
    • Pension Guarantee Credit
    • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
    • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
    • Income Support
    • Tax Credits (Child Tax Credits and Working Tax Credits)
    • Universal Credit
    • Housing benefit
    • Pension credit saving credit

Don’t worry if you don’t meet this criteria, though. Your local authority could help you under the ECO flex if you need energy-saving improvements to your home, your household income is below a certain threshold, or someone in your household suffers from a long-term health condition.
